Boothbay Region Land Trust welcomes visitors to its preserves year-round, free of charge. In order to protect our fragile lands, please adhere to the following rules:
Dog Use:
- Dogs are NOT permitted on Damariscove Island at any time
- Dogs must be kept on leash at all times at the following preserves:
- Well-behaved dogs are permitted off-leash at the following preserves, so long as they stay within sight of owners, follow voice command, and are leashed when approaching other hikers:
- BRLT preserves practice LEAVE NO TRACE. All dog waste should be packed out and disposed of off-site. Dog waste bags are available at the kiosks.
Leave No Trace:
- Please pack out trash including cleaning up and packing out waste from dogs.
- Avoid climbing up or down exposed banks at the water’s edge, as this contributes to erosion.
- Leave what you find. Pick/cut no flowers or plants. Remove no artifacts.
- Please stay on marked trails at all times.
Camping:
- Overnight camping and fires are not permitted on BRLT Preserves with the exception of the primitive campsites on Spectacle Island and Miles Island.
- On Spectacle Island: Two campsites available on first come basis. Camping capacity: North site: 4 people; South site: 4 people.
- On Miles Island: 1 campsite available on first come basis. Camping capacity: 6 people.
- Campfires on Spectacle and Miles Island: Fires allowed in designated fire ring or below high-tide line only, and only with a state permit from wardensreport.com or call 207-380-5635.
- Visitors should only burn driftwood on Spectacle and Miles Island.
Personal Use:
- Commercial use is not permitted.
- Organized parties greater than 10 people must obtain permission for use of preserves.
- Lobstermen & women must contract with BRLT for use of Roberts Wharf or the stone pier at Damariscove Island for trap storage/ use.
Private Property:
- Please respect the private property of abutting neighbors by not trespassing.
- Several preserves have right-of-way trail access by permission of private landowners. Please stay on the trail at these locations.
- Be respectful of working waterfront activities at Roberts Wharf and Damariscove Island.
Access by Boat:
- Docks & Moorings are available at the following preserves:
- Damariscove Island
- Indiantown Island
- Oak Point Farm
- In order to allow other boats access, please do not leave your vessel tied to the dock; use a mooring or anchor your boat.
- Courtesy dinghies are available at Damariscove Island and Oak Point Farm. Please return dinghy as you found it.
