Hendricks Head Hiking Trail is a perfect little walk adjacent to Hendricks Head public beach on Southport Island. Consisting of an easy half-mile loop trail that provides opportunity for bird watching, nature photography, and enjoying the natural beauty of this wooded landscape. The trail is marked throughout with blaze, guiding visitors along a short scenic hike. Dog walking is permitted on the trail.

Visitors to this trail will also enjoy the proximity to Hendricks Head public beach. Hendricks Head beach, owned and managed by the town of Southport, is a beautiful, sandy beach with a small climbable outcrop called Kitten Island. Take a dip in the ocean or just enjoy the scenic views including the nearby Hendricks Head lighthouse.

Directions to Hendricks Head Hiking Trail: From the roundabout in Boothbay Center, take the first exit onto Corey Lane. Continue straight onto Lakeside Drive for 2.1 miles. Turn right onto ME-27 S and drive 2.6 miles crossing the swing bridge onto Southport Island and continuing past the Southport Central school. Turn right onto Dogfish Head Road and drive roughly 240 feet. Then turn left onto Beach Road, travel 0.4 miles. The hiking trail will be on your right-hand side, parking for the trail and access to the beach will be on your left-hand side.
