Boothbay Region Land Trust is pleased to introduce its newest staff member, Daniel Hill, who joins the land trust as its Stewardship Manager. Daniel relocated from his home state of Indiana to New Hampshire around 5 years ago, and quickly fell in love with the beauty and diversity of Northern New England. At the time Daniel was working as a software engineer, but the conserved lands where he spent his free time recreating and rejuvenating captivated him. The more time Daniel spent learning about conservation work and volunteering for conservation organizations, the more passionate he felt about making a difference, a drive that would soon change the course of his life.

As Daniel became more aware of the threats facing various natural ecosystems through mass biodiversity loss and climate change, he made a bold decision to leave his career in technology and return to university to complete a second bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science. Following graduation, Daniel worked for Squam Lakes Association in Holderness, New Hampshire on water-quality monitoring to protect the lakes habitats. His work also included invasive plant management, recreational trail development, and shoreline restoration. More recently, Daniel served as a Stewardship Field Assistant for The Nature Conservancy in Maine with a focus on easement monitoring and trail stewardship.

Daniel currently resides in Bath, and is thrilled to continue to live and work in coastal Maine. He looks forward to meeting the many members and volunteers who contribute to BRLT’s success. “I’m really looking forward to helping preserve the beautiful biodiversity that the Boothbay Region has to offer,” Daniel notes. “I look forward to getting to know BRLT staff, volunteers, and the broader Boothbay Region community and gaining an understanding of what the BRLT preserves mean to all of you.”

Daniel’s first days at BRLT were spent with outgoing Land Manager, Brad Weigel. Brad recently accepted a new director-level position closer to his home in Bristol at Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust. There Brad will oversee the stewardship of conserved lands across the Damariscotta/ Pemaquid/ Bristol region. We wish Brad all the best in his new adventure and look forward to opportunities to partner with him and our neighboring land trust.

Feel free to introduce yourself to Daniel in the coming months if you see him out on the trails or around Oak Point Farm!
