Autumn View Preserve is comprised of 68-acres of wetlands, fields, and forest, with a 1.25-mile loop trail. The trail runs alongside Meadow Brook offering great opportunities for birding or enjoying stunning wetland vistas. The trail intersects the Appalachee Preserve trail system on the southern end, as well as the old historic trail leading to Lobster Cove Meadow.
Appalachee Preserve is an exceptionally beautiful 25-acre parcel, characterized by Appalachee Pond’s rugged shoreline and mixed forest. A moderate 1-mile loop trail offers an opportunity to extend hikes from Autumn View. Appalachee does not have separate parking and access is through Autumn View.
Autumn View, Appalachee, and Lobster Cove Meadow are the three preserves that comprise the Meadow Brook Conservation Area. The trails in this network lend themselves to jogging and cross country skiing, as well as hiking, bird watching, and botanical surveys.
These preserves are exceedingly rich in wildlife. More than 140 species of migratory and nesting birds have been sighted, along with a variety of other creatures. Wildflowers adorn the meadow from spring to fall, attracting multitudes of butterflies.
Hunting and fishing are prohibited at Autumn View & Appalachee Preserves. Dogs must be kept leashed at all times on three preserves in the Meadow Brook Conservation Area.
The Giles Barn, a captivating 1800s married-frame timber barn, sits just beyond the parking lot at Autumn View. This barn is believed to be built by John Leishman Jr., a master builder known for some of the region’s oldest and most noteworthy landmarks including the Auld-McCobb House in Boothbay. The barn stands as a physical reminder of the lands agricultural past. The barn was entirely restored prior to the land trust’s ownership. Today it serves the functional needs of the land trust, including equipment storage, while offering an incredible historic landmark to visitors that captures the land’s agricultural history.
