New Board Members:

This September BRLT has nominated three new faces to our board of directors– Tom Abello, Adam Harkins, and Erika Huber.

Tom with his wife, Heather and daughters, Hannah and Charlotte.

Tom Abello serves as Legislative Director and Senior Policy Advisor for Natural Resources for Maine Governor Janet Mills. Tom works with the administration, legislators, stakeholders, policymakers, and others craft legislative proposals, bills, and initiatives that reflect the Governor’s position. Tom is a honest broker, collaborator, and key figure at the statehouse. He brings a positive attitude and tireless energy to advocate on behalf of Governor Mills. Prior to joining the Governor, Tom worked for The Nature Conservancy for 19 years. For nearly two decades he served in a variety of external affairs, governmental relations and communications roles for the organization helping to find a balance between conservation strategies and economic opportunities. Tom lives in Edgecomb with his wife, Heather, and two teenage daughters, Hannah and Charlotte. Tom also served on the Edgecomb School Committee for 8 years, and graduated from Fordham University in the Bronx, New York. In his free time, Tom likes to hike, birdwatch, fish, hunt, camp, and boat.

Erika Huber

Erika Huber is the Youth and Family Program Manager at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens where she has worked since 2012. She holds a B.S. in Forestry from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Master’s in Horticulture from Kansas State University. She has a passion for connecting children with nature and has been fortunate to be doing just that for the past 15+ years through school, community and public garden programming. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, she now considers Boothbay her home where she lives with her husband Jerry, daughter Linnea and spunky dog Eli. In her spare time, she enjoys puttering around in her own garden and going for hikes with her family.

Adam Harkins is the Municipal Director of Facilities and Public Works Foreman for the Town of Southport, a position he began in the fall of 2021. Prior to this, Adam served as the Director of Facilities for Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens for more than 10 years. In his free time, Adam volunteers for the Southport Fire Department, the Southport Central School Board, and seasonally coaches youth baseball. Adam and his family live in Southport.
