Land protection is linked directly to a sustainable economy and healthy community. Natural areas and open space are essential for our water quality and supply, our wildlife, and our tourism.
Boothbay Region Land Trust operates within the four towns of Edgecomb, Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor and Southport. In partnership with private landowners, municipalities and other non-profits, BRLT conserves open space, wildlife habitat, working lands, and public access properties throughout the region.
Our conserved lands include parcels which are owned by the land trust as well as private property on which the land trust and owner create a voluntary conservation agreement known as a conservation easement. Conservation easements are one way that private property owners can partner with BRLT to protect significant natural areas.
Using strict conservation value criteria, new properties are conserved through donation or, in exceptional circumstances, purchase. Once conservation lands/easements are acquired, BRLT takes on the responsibility to be dependable caretakers of those properties.
