Schoolhouse Pond is a 42-acre property featuring a 1.2-mile loop trail through mixed forest land with wildflowers, interesting rock formations and a beautiful old stone boundary wall. The trails here are easy.
The property was the site of a schoolhouse from about 1840 – 1895. A small pond known locally as Schoolhouse Pond can be found by following the wider, multi-use trail through the center of the property. This trail is believed to be part of or near the old Barters Island town road that ran down the center of the island.
Directions to Schoolhouse Pond Preserve: From Boothbay Harbor go north on Rt. 27 to the roundabout in Boothbay Center; go around the roundabout and turn right onto Corey Lane. Proceed 0.3 of a mile. Bear right at the fork onto Barters Island Road and travel 2.1 miles crossing two bridges; turn right onto the East Side Road. Travel 1.9 miles. The Schoolhouse Pond Preserve is on the left.
