SUMMARY:CLIP Work Party
DESCRIPTION:Join our Committee to Limit Invasive Plants (CLIP). CLIP work parties will take place every other Wednesday at Penny Lake Preserve during the fall of 2021 (Penny Lake will continue to be the focus point for the group’s efforts though Ovens Mouth East may see some work as well). CLIP volunteers will be helping eradicate invasive shrubs and vines (bush honeysuckle\, oriental bittersweet\, multi flora rose\, autumn olive\, and Japanese barberry) on this preserve.  Work will consist of pulling\, cutting\, and piling invasive brush that will be chipped or burned later. No prior knowledge or experience with invasive plants is needed. Training will be provided including species identification and removal techniques. Some tools will be available\, but volunteers are welcome and encouraged to bring their favorite pruning shears\, loppers\, or pulling/cutting devices. Long pants\, long sleeve shirts\, and gloves are recommended as well as bug spray and water. Your help is vital to supporting native ecosystems on our preserves!

DESCRIPTION:Join our newly formed Committee to Limit Invasive Plants (CLIP). CLIP work parties will take place every other Wednesday at Penny Lake Preserve during the summer of 2021 (Penny Lake will be the focus point for the group’s initial efforts throughout the summer).

SUMMARY:"Love to Hike" Scavenger Hunt
DESCRIPTION:Can you find the hidden hearts at Penny Lake Preserve? Edgecomb Eddy School Kindergarten teacher Cindy Casey set up a fun scavenger hunt for her students that is open to everyone to try. Entitled “Love to Hike”\, participants are challenged to find the 18 hidden rocks with red hearts painted on them scattered throughout the preserve. Download the map here\, which marks the trails\, features\, and the approximate location of the rocks\, which makes for easy orienteering for families. Are you up for the challenge? Follow the “Love to Hike” map online or find one at the Penny Lake kiosk. Head out onto the trail and find the heart rocks\, remembering to leave them in place for the next person to find. A reminder that social distancing guidelines are in place for hiking\, such as keeping 6 feet apart on the trail and returning at another time if the parking lot is full. Happy hunting!
