SUMMARY:Story Trail Walk: We Are Water Protectors
DESCRIPTION:Read a family-friendly book while walking through the woods. Follow the illustrated signs along the trail as they tell a tale that connects you to your natural surroundings. The free 1-mile story trail starts from the Oak Point Farm parking lot kiosk and can be completed at your own pace and on your own time. The current story trail is in partnership with the Boothbay Region Clean Water Drinking Initiative in recognition of National Water Quality Month and features the read-aloud book “We Are Water Protectors”\, written by Carole Lindstrom and illustrated by Michaela Goade. \nInspired by the many Indigenous-led movements across North America\, We Are Water Protectors issues an urgent rallying cry to safeguard the Earth’s water from harm and corruption―in a bold and lyrical picture book. The story trail at Oak Point Farm is open year-round during daylight hours\, with a new book posted every four to five weeks. Current book titles and dates will be updated on our website.

SUMMARY:Story Trail Walk: Flowers Are Calling
DESCRIPTION:Read a family-friendly book while walking through the woods. Follow the illustrated signs along the trail as they tell a tale that connects you to your natural surroundings. The free 1-mile story trail starts from the Oak Point Farm parking lot kiosk and can be completed at your own pace and on your own time. The current story trail features the read-aloud book “Flowers Are Calling”\, written by Rita Gray and illustrated by Kenard Pak. \nFlowers are calling to all the animals of the forest\, “Drink me!”—but it’s the pollinators who feast on their nectar. In rhyming poetic form and with luminous artwork\, this book shows us the marvel of natural cooperation between plants\, animals\, and insects as they each play their part in the forest’s cycle of life. \nThe story trail at Oak Point Farm is open year-round during daylight hours\, with a new book posted every four to five weeks. SUMMARY:Story Trail Walk: The Secret Pool
The current story trail features the read-aloud book “The Secret Pool”\, written by Kimberly Ridley and illustrated by Rebekah Raye. \nYou might walk right by a vernal pool and not notice it. Often mistaken for mere puddles in the woods\, vernal pools are the source of life for many interesting creatures. If you look carefully you can find them—and be amazed! These secret pools form every year when low places on the forest floor fill up with rain and melted snow. They soon become home to hatching wood frogs\, spotted salamanders\, and fairy shrimp. Even in late summer and fall\, when many vernal pools have shrunk to mud holes\, creatures such as turtles and snakes rely on these places for shelter and food. The Secret Pool introduces young readers to the wonders right underfoot as the voice of a vernal pool shares its secrets through the seasons and as sidebars provide fun facts on its inhabitants and the crucial role these small\, often overlooked wetlands play in maintaining a healthy environment. \nThe story trail at Oak Point Farm is open year-round during daylight hours\, with a new book posted every four to five weeks. Current book titles and dates will be updated on our website.

SUMMARY:Signs of Spring Hike
DESCRIPTION:After a long Maine winter\, the first signs of spring are a welcome sight\, offering promises of growth and renewal. Discover the signs of spring during a slow-paced 1-mile walk through field and forest\, alongside a freshwater pond and tidal inlets. \nTo register for this free event please fill out the form below: \n\n	Notice: JavaScript is required for this content.\n\n\n \n\n\n \n \n \n
