SUMMARY:Within the Whale: Spring Break Edition!
DESCRIPTION:This event is full!\nBack by popular demand! Within the Whale proved to be so popular that the Boothbay Region Land Trust has teamed up with our partners\, Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences and Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library\, to bring the whale back! With over 300 people attending the first Within the Whale program in February\, not everyone had the chance to step inside of the life-sized inflatable humpback. “Chunk” will return to the Boothbay region to give those who missed out the opportunity to experience an unforgettable journey inside a whale. In order to avoid long waits and disappointment\, this second event will require guests to register for a specific timed-entry. \nExperience science in a spectacular way by stepping inside “Chunk\,” a life-size\, inflatable humpback whale\, and embark on an immersive journey through the wonders of whale anatomy and ocean ecology. This unique experience is part of the nationally recognized Within the Whale program\, designed and guided by award-winning wildlife educator Jessica Woodend\, creator of this one-of-a-kind marine science adventure. \nInside the whale\, participants of all ages will explore 3D anatomical features and learn engaging facts about humpbacks and marine ecosystems — a perfect blend of fun and science that connects people directly with the ocean world. \nThis event is free but registration is required below to schedule your timed entry inside the whale. As time slots fill\, they will be removed. \nThis event is full!

SUMMARY:Partner Event: From Forests to Faucets: Water Quality
DESCRIPTION:From Maine to California\, communities across America struggle to provide clean drinking water to their residents. In contrast\, the Boothbay region has a matchless opportunity to preserve our public drinking water supplies before we have a problem. The solution is both the simplest and least expensive way possible: if we can conserve enough of the undeveloped forest in our public water sources’ watersheds\, the watersheds can continue to act as natural filters that clean water before it reaches the reservoirs. \nFor the second lecture in our series\, Dr. Rachel Sipler\, director of the Water Health and Humans Initiative and Senior Research Scientist\, Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences\, will lead a session that explores what we know about Adams Pond and Knickerbocker Lake water quality\, factors that influence water quality\, and lake monitoring programs. All sessions are free to the public. Participants do not need to attend all sessions (each session stands alone and participants can attend as many or few as they choose). Light refreshments will be served. For more information\, please contact Jenn Cusick at cleandrinkingwater@bbrlt.org.
