SUMMARY:Story Trail Walk: The Wildlife Tree
DESCRIPTION:Read a family-friendly book while walking through the woods. Follow the illustrated signs along the trail as they tell a tale that connects you to your natural surroundings. The free 1-mile story trail starts from the Oak Point Farm parking lot kiosk and can be completed at your own pace and on your own time. The current story trail features the read-aloud book “The Wildlife Tree”\, written by Peter Emery and illustrated by Deborah Emery. \nLearn about the remarkable wildlife trees that provide homes for amazing animals. Guess which animals live in these trees through clues and illustrations. Explore facts about their fascinating lives. The story trail at Oak Point Farm is open year-round during daylight hours\, with a new book posted every four to five weeks. Current book titles and dates will be updated on our website. \nAuthor Peter Emery has spent over seven decades roaming the woods\, fields\, and waters of Maine. He and his wife\, Deborah\, have lived on an old farm in beautiful Wayne\, Maine. His countless walks in the forest and fields behind his home have revealed a variety of remarkable plants and animals. After graduating from Colby College\, Peter taught math and science for forty five years in high school and college. His deep love for the State of Maine\, with its magnificent environment of ocean\, lakes\, mountains\, fields\, and forest inspired the creation of this book. \nDeborah Emery is the illustrator of this book. She and her husband\, Peter\, collaborated on creating “The Wildlife Tree”. She has taught elementary school in Massachusetts and Maine. Her outstanding leadership in school administration resulted in the honor of being named “National Distinguished Principal of the Year.” She too has walked innumerable miles on the trails in the woods behind their home in Wayne\, Maine. Her desire to continue to educate has been captured in her beautiful wildlife watercolors. \n

SUMMARY:Story Trail Walk: Winter's Gifts
DESCRIPTION:Read a family-friendly book while walking through the woods. Follow the illustrated signs along the trail as they tell a tale that connects you to your natural surroundings. The free 1-mile story trail starts from the Oak Point Farm parking lot kiosk and can be completed at your own pace and on your own time. The current story trail features the read-aloud book “Winter’s Gifts”\, written by Kaitlin B. Curtice and illustrated by Gloria Félix. \nYour thankfulness is your gift to Earth. Winter’s Gifts is the tale of a young Potawatomi girl named Dani whose family celebrates the darkest season of the year by treasuring the slowness that winter brings. Dani’s schoolmates think it’s silly to think that Earth gives us presents\, but on a magical snowy day\, Dani has the courage to teach her friends about the gifts of winter—resting\, remembrance\, and gratitude. Can Dani help them receive winter’s gifts? \nWinter’s Gifts is a joyful and tender family story of honoring creation\, the power of storytelling\, and how a new perspective can transform us. \nThe story trail at Oak Point Farm is open year-round during daylight hours\, with a new book posted every four to five weeks. Current book titles and dates will be updated on our website. \n
