DESCRIPTION:Boothbay Region Land Trust volunteer and long-time birder\, Stan Wakefield\, regularly shares his observations and photos while monitoring BRLT’s bird boxes at Oak Point Farm\, Lobster Cove Meadow\, and Singing Meadows preserves. Learn about the variety of birds that are making homes in these boxes\, see great photos that document the nesting process\, and find out the best times to schedule a walk at our preserves and observe the busy feathered parents tending to their young (remember to bring your binoculars and observe from a distance). Observations and data from these boxes is also reported to NestWatch\, a citizen-science monitoring program developed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and used nationwide to track the status and trends in the reproductive biology of birds. Come outside and read a family friendly book while on a short and easy hike!  This free 1 mile story trail starts from the Oak Point Farm parking lot kiosk and can be completed anytime during daylight hours. The current story trail features the book “Over and Under the Pond” by Kate Messner and Christopher Silas Neal. In this book\, readers will discover the plants and animals that make up the rich\, interconnected ecosystem of a pond. Over the pond\, the water is a mirror\, reflecting the sky. But under the water is a hidden world of minnows darting\, beavers diving\, and tadpoles growing. These secrets and many others are waiting to be discovered on this story trail walk. After the book ends\, you will have a chance to investigate a real freshwater pond on the preserve that teems with life. What will you discover?

SUMMARY:Self-Guided Forest Bathing Walk
DESCRIPTION:During this time of social distancing\, Boothbay Region Land Trust is offering a self-guided forest bathing walk at Hendricks Head Hiking Trail. Forest bathing is the practice of spending time in woods for the purpose of enhancing health\, wellness\, and happiness. Connect to the outdoors as you follow the forest bathing invitations mounted on posts spaced along the trail. The invitations offer gentle opportunities to build your sensory awareness while exploring your natural surroundings. This leisurely walk covers less then a mile of moderate terrain and was designed by certified forest therapy guide and BRLT environmental educator Tracey Hall. It is open during daylight hours for the month of August with parking available at Hendrick’s Head Beach.  Please practice social distancing as you walk and enjoy your time in the forest. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Story Trail Walk: Hey\, Little Ant
DESCRIPTION:Looking for something to do with your kids during this time of remote learning and social distancing? Come outside and read a family friendly book while on a short and easy hike!  The free 1 mile story trail starts from the Oak Point Farm parking lot kiosk and can be completed anytime during daylight hours. The current story trail features the book “Hey\, Little Ant” by Phillip and Hannah Hoose. Written first as a song by a father and daughter\, this illustrated book features the dialogue of a plucky ant and the kid about to carelessly squish it. Tension builds as the ant states a compelling case for its survival while the kid’s friends gather round to taunt the kid for hesitating. The final line of the book is a question–“What do you think that kid should do?”–leaving the decision squarely in the hands of the reader. Because the book asks children to decide the outcome\, it has been widely used by educators and caregivers to discuss everything from bullying to the ethical treatment of animals. The BRLT Story Trail Walk will feature a new book every few weeks throughout the pandemic at Oak Point Farm.
