Embark on a scenic boat ride with the Boothbay Region Land Trust (BRLT) to one of Maine’s  most unique and fascinating islands. Damariscove Island has a storied history. Prior to its colonization in 1614\, the island was vital to the Abenaki people for fishing and berry picking. It served as one source in a larger trade network of communities connected by the Algonquin language as well as a seasonal vacation spot for families to camp\, hunt\, and fish. It is also one of the earliest European settlement sites\, dating back over four centuries. During the voyage\, a BRLT representative will provide fascinating insights into the island’s rich history and unique natural features. \nOnce on the island\, enjoy a variety of activities including five miles of picturesque hiking trails\, tide-pooling\, and perfect spots for picnicking. You can also visit a small rustic museum to delve deeper into the island’s storied past. \nPlease be aware that Damariscove Island is a nature preserve with rugged terrain and limited amenities. The only facility available is a composting toilet. The island is nearly treeless with little to no shade. Be sure to bring plenty of water\, sun protection\, and anything else you might need for a comfortable visit of several hours. We look forward to sharing this remarkable adventure with you! \nFill out my LGL Form!\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
