Story Trail: Ferdinand Fox’s First Summer

Read a family-friendly book while walking through the woods. Follow the illustrated signs along the trail as they tell a tale that connects you to your natural surroundings. The free 1-mile story trail starts from the Oak Point Farm parking lot kiosk and can be completed at your own pace and on your own time. The current story trail features the read-aloud book “Ferdinand Fox’s First Summer,” written and photographed by Mary Holland.

Naturalist photographer and environment educator, Mary Holland, shares the journey of a red fox as he explores the world around him during the first few months of his life. Watch as he learns to hunt through play and by using his senses. See the changes as he grows from a young kit to a young fox.

Artists Reception: Gayle Fraas and Duncan Slade

Join artists Gayle Fraas and Duncan Slade for a reception and preview of the exhibit Peninsula – Waiting for Twilight, opening in the gallery room at Boothbay Region Land Trust’s Oak Point Farm on Thursday, June 4 from 4pm-6pm. The artist team’s works, both on paper and dye painted quilts, include landscapes with familiar BRLT trails and shoreline combined with related patterns.

“We walk trails along the shore at the end of the day when the color drains from the landscape leaving only contrast, awaiting the dome of the night sky.”

Peninsula will remain on display through the summer and fall of 2026 during visitor center hours, Monday through Friday from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm. A percentage of the sales from this show will benefit BRLT’s land conservation and public access.

Look for the Artists’ Work this Fall at The Maine State Museum:

A related quilt by Fraas·Slade, The Point (featuring a view at the Cross River Preserve), was acquired by the Maine State Museum and will be on exhibit in – Maine Quilts: 250 Years of Comfort and Community opening October 24, 2026 when the Museum re-opens after a significant renovation.

This event is free to attend. Registration is requested.

Trail Tuesday: Oak Point Farm

Join us for Trail Tuesdays with the Boothbay Region Land Trust! Every Tuesday at 10 AM, we’ll gather at a different BRLT trailhead for a leisurely 1-2 mile hike, allowing time to soak in the scenery and marvel at nature along the way. Led by a naturalist, our walks will include occasional stops to share fascinating insights into the preserve’s ecology, including the diverse plant and animal life.

No need to worry about advanced registration—simply lace up your sturdy shoes, pack some water, and meet us at the parking lot kiosk. In the event of inclement weather, cancellations will be posted on the BRLT website 24 hours in advance. Come for one hike or join us for the entire series. We look forward to seeing you on Trail Tuesdays!

Start your Thursday mornings with birdsong, fresh air, and good company! Join us for a relaxed and welcoming weekly bird walk each Thursday in June at 7:30 AM. Whether you’re an experienced birder or simply curious about the birds around you, these walks are a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the beauty of early summer, sharpen your observation skills, and discover who’s singing, nesting, and soaring in our preserves.

Led by longtime bird enthusiast Kathy Jacobs, each walk offers a chance to slow down, connect with nature, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the season together.

June 11 | 7:30 AM – Lobster Cove Meadow
June 18 | 7:30 AM – Ovens Mouth East
June 25 | 7:30 AM – Porter Preserve

Yoga on the Deck at Oak Point Farm

Immerse your senses in the natural world and connect with your breath in this all-level hatha flow class on the farmhouse deck at BRLT’s Oak Point Farm. Begin your day with intention and reconnect with your body through mindful movement & focus on your breath while surrounded by the scenic beauty of a nature preserve. We will gently warm up our bodies in the morning air, move through basic standing yoga postures, do some strength-building, and stretch our muscles. Class is open to all levels and suitable for beginners. Please bring your yoga mat or a towel. Donations are welcome and registration is not required.
