Read a family-friendly book while walking through the woods. Follow the illustrated signs along the trail as they tell a tale that connects you to your natural surroundings. The free 1-mile story trail starts from the Oak Point Farm parking lot kiosk and can be completed at your own pace and on your own time. The current story trail features the read-aloud book “Our Warming Waters,” written and illustrated by Boothbay Region Land Trust’s 2026 Summer Intern Samantha Huss.

This work of climate fiction tells the story of a shark struggling with the effects of global climate change. It focuses on the realities of sharing a vulnerable planet, of living th through a global emergency, and of working with the natural world around us to counter the environmental crisis before it is too late. It begins in ignorant bliss, turns to troubling reality, and ends with a purposeful call to action, intentionally leaving the reader with a hopeful and affirmative image of the future.

Join us for Trail Tuesdays with the Boothbay Region Land Trust! Every Tuesday at 10 AM, we’ll gather at a different BRLT trailhead for a leisurely 1–2 mile hike, allowing plenty of time to soak in the scenery and marvel at nature along the way. Led by a naturalist, our walks include occasional stops to share fascinating insights into each preserve’s ecology, including its diverse plant and animal life.

No need to worry about advanced registration—simply lace up your sturdy hiking shoes, bring water, and meet us at the parking lot kiosk. Trail conditions vary by preserve and may include uneven terrain, roots, rocks, hills, or wet areas, so please come prepared and choose footwear appropriate for the trail. To help ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone and to protect the wildlife we encounter, please leave dogs at home.

In the event of inclement weather, cancellations will be posted on the BRLT website 24 hours in advance. Come for one hike or join us for the entire series—we look forward to seeing you on Trail Tuesdays!

This week’s hike starts at Autumn View Preserve and continues onto neighboring Appalachee Preserve for a 2.5-mile walk. Autumn View is our newest preserve and is not currently listed on maps. To find the preserve, take Route 96 from the light at Hannaford towards East Boothbay for .9 of a mile. Turn right onto Autumn View Road (formerly Giles Road). Continue down the dirt road until reaching the preserve parking lot.

In the early fall, you can still find wildflowers blooming in the meadows and woodlands of the Boothbay Region. Join botanist and BRLT volunteer Lauren Stockwell for a leisurely guided walk at our newest preserve, Autumn View Farm. As we explore the trails, Lauren will help participants identify a variety of common wildflowers and highlight the unique features and adaptations of each plant.

This is an easy-paced walk with uneven surfaces suitable for all ages with an interest in the natural world.

Help us save lives from breast cancer! Boothbay Region Garden Club in partnership with Boothbay Region Land Trust is hosting a short fundraising walk as part of the nation-wide Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fundraising walks taking place in nearly 150 communities during the month of October – breast cancer awareness month. Proceeds from this walk will help to fund patient support services and lifesaving research. Come join our team!

Participants are asked to bring a donation (checks only please, made out to American Cancer Society) and to wear PINK in support of breast cancer awareness. We will begin our walk at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church (32 Emery Lane in Boothbay Harbor) and from there will continue to Penny Lake Preserve where we will walk the trail.

What does our world look like when the climate crisis is no longer a problem we will deal with in the future, but a problem we are solving in the present?

Halcyon, an artist collective based in Midcoast Maine, in collaboration with singer/songwriter Alisa Amador present The Future is Here: a multimedia performance featuring the stories and actions of Maine people who are working on the ground to build creative, regenerative, and resilient communities in response to the climate crisis.

Combining live music with film, community voices, and stop-motion animations, The Future is Here celebrates the ingenuity within our communities through a series of vignettes that tell stories of the concrete actions being taken to mitigate the climate crisis and build communities that are more equal, more sustainable, and more open.

This free program is provided in partnership with the Opera House, Boothbay Region Land Trust, Boothbay Region Clean Drinking Water Initiative, Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, Boothbay Sea & Science Center, Sunrise Ecologic and the Boothbay Region Climate Action Committee.

This program is free. Doors for seating open at 6:30pm. The length of program is approximately 1 hour.
