SUMMARY:Story Trail Walk: Birdsong
DESCRIPTION:Read a family-friendly book while walking through the woods. Follow the illustrated signs along the trail as they tell a tale that connects you to your natural surroundings. The free 1-mile story trail starts from the Oak Point Farm parking lot kiosk and can be completed at your own pace and on your own time. The current story trail features the read-aloud book “Birdsong”\, written and illustrated by Julie Flett. \nWhen Katherena and her mother move to a small town\, Katherena feels lonely and out of place. But when she meets an elderly woman artist who lives next door\, named Agnes––her world starts to change. Katherena and Agnes share the same passions for arts and crafts\, birds\, and nature. But as the seasons change\, can Katherena navigate the failing health of her new friend? Award-winning author and artist Julie Flett’s textured images of birds\, flowers\, art\, and landscapes bring vibrancy and warmth to this powerful story\, which highlights the fulfillment of intergenerational relationships\, shared passions\, and spending time outdoors with the ones we love. \n

SUMMARY:Signs of Spring Hike
DESCRIPTION:After a long Maine winter\, the first signs of spring are a welcome sight\, offering promises of growth and renewal. While some of the signs of spring are obvious\, like longer daylight and warming temperatures\, some are less noticeable\, such as the swelling of buds on trees and the return of frogs and salamanders to our vernal pools. Discover the signs of spring during a slow-paced 1-mile walk through field and forest\, alongside a freshwater pond and tidal inlets. \nThis free event is open to everyone and limited to 12 participants. Registration is required by contacting BRLT Environmental Educator Tracey Hall at thall@bbrlt.org or 207-633-4818. In the case we need to reschedule due to inclement weather\, we’ll notify those registered by email and post an update to this page. We love dogs\, but ask that you leave them at home for this guided hike.

DESCRIPTION:We are excited to join our friends on the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library lawn to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday\, April 23rd from 10 AM to 1 PM. Several local non-profits are co-sponsoring this event\, offering activities and information\, including Bigelow Laboratory\, Boothbay Region Clean Drinking Water Initiative\, Boothbay Region Land Trust\, Boothbay Sea & Science Center\, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens\, GiveIT. GetIT.\, Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District\, Merrymeeting Audubon\, and Morris Farm.\nBoothbay Region Land Trust will be offering information about our local preserves\, flora\, and fauna. BRLT staff will be overseeing a touch table filled with natural objects from our region and offer you the opportunity to dissect an owl pellet.
