Keynote speaker Irene Barber\, landscape designer\, horticulturist\, and Adult Education Program Manager at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens\, will discuss incorporating native plants that increase beauty\, biodiversity\, and contribute to clean water. Come discover some of the dynamic\, striking natives perfect for shorelines\, rain gardens\, and wetland edges. \nRepresentatives from the Boothbay Region Clean Drinking Water Initiative will conduct a Q&A and discuss the community-wide efforts being taken to preserve the region’s clean drinking water\, from Adams Pond and Knickerbocker Lake. \nRegistration is required for this free event. DESCRIPTION:***This Event has reached capacity and we are no longer accepting reservations.*** In recognition of Earth Day\, join Boothbay Region Land Trust for a free showing of the bird-themed documentary film “The Messenger” with an introduction from Maine ornithologist Dr. Jeffrey Wells on Saturday\, April 23rd at 2 PM at the Harbor Theater. The Messenger is an artful investigation into the causes of songbird mass depletion and the people working to turn the tide. This visually thrilling film reveals how the issues facing birds also pose daunting implications for our planet. Dr. Wells has connections to this film and will be sharing information on the birds of Maine and beyond\, the plights they face\, and what can be done about it. \nDr. Jeff Wells is the Vice-president of Boreal Conservation for the National Audubon Society. He has authored or co-authored books\, articles\, academic publications\, and blogs\, and is the co-author\, with his wife Allison\, of a popular bird and natural history column for the Boothbay Register. During his time at the Boreal Songbird Initiative\, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology\, and the National Audubon Society\, Dr. Wells has earned a reputation as one of the nation’s leading bird experts and conservation biologists. He is now dedicated to understanding and protecting the land where North America’s birds are born and raised\, the Boreal Forest region of Canada and Alaska. \nThis free event is limited to 80 participants with advance registration required. \n  \n

This news follows reports of declining insect populations and a changing climate. What is happening and what can be done? How can we help? Join us for a closer look at these subjects and other alarming news with Dr. Jeffery Wells.\nDr. Wells is a Fellow of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Vice President of Boreal Conservation for National Audubon. He is one of the nation’s leading bird experts and conservation biologists and author of “Birder’s Conservation Handbook”. Along with his wife Allison Childs Wells\, he authors the weekly column “A Bird’s Tale” in the Boothbay Register. Both are widely published natural history writers and are the authors of the book\, “Maine’s Favorite Birds”.\nThis free talk is cosponsored by Indivisible Boothbay and will take place inside the farmhouse at BRLT’s Oak Point Farm\, with seating limited to 25 participants.
