Follow the illustrated signs along the trail as they tell a tale that connects you to your natural surroundings. The free 1-mile story trail starts from the Oak Point Farm parking lot kiosk and can be completed at your own pace and on your own time. The current story trail features the read-aloud book “Animal Homes\,” written and photographed by Mary Holland. \nJust like humans\, animals use their homes for shelter and to raise their young. Animal homes might be easy to see\, or they may be hidden (camouflaged) for protection. Naturalist photographer and environment educator\, Mary Holland\, describes a wide variety of homes that exist in the animal world.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Every Tuesday at 10 AM\, we’ll gather at a different BRLT trailhead for a leisurely 1–2 mile hike\, allowing plenty of time to soak in the scenery and marvel at nature along the way. Led by a naturalist\, our walks include occasional stops to share fascinating insights into each preserve’s ecology\, including its diverse plant and animal life. \nNo need to worry about advanced registration—simply lace up your sturdy hiking shoes\, bring water\, and meet us at the parking lot kiosk. Trail conditions vary by preserve and may include uneven terrain\, roots\, rocks\, hills\, or wet areas\, so please come prepared and choose footwear appropriate for the trail. To help ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone and to protect the wildlife we encounter\, please leave dogs at home. \nIn the event of inclement weather\, cancellations will be posted on the BRLT website 24 hours in advance. Come for one hike or join us for the entire series—we look forward to seeing you on Trail Tuesdays! \nThis week’s hike is at Porter Preserve: \nPorter \n \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
